Waiting on God: The Call to Prepare and Unite Acts 1:12-26

Waiting on God | Acts 1:9–26 | Preparing for What God Is About to Do
Waiting is often one of the hardest parts of the Christian life. In this message from Acts 1:9–26, we explore how the early disciples handled a season of waiting after Jesus ascended into heaven.
Just like expectant parents prepare months in advance for the arrival of a newborn—gathering supplies, learning, and anticipating what’s coming—the disciples were in a season of preparation. Jesus had commanded them to remain in Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit.
Instead of drifting or becoming discouraged, they responded with obedience, unity, and prayer.
In this sermon we look at:
• Why waiting on God is never wasted time
• How obedience and prayer work together in the Christian life
• How the disciples sought biblical clarity in uncertain moments
• The importance of faithful leadership in the church
• What it means to trust God's sovereignty when making decisions
As the disciples waited, they devoted themselves to prayer, trusted the Scriptures, and relied on God to guide their next steps—even when they did not yet know what was coming.
Seasons of waiting are often the moments when God is preparing us the most.
Key Takeaways:
Waiting is preparation, not inactivity
Prayer strengthens obedience
God is sovereign over our decisions and our future
