Sermon Title: Power from Heaven – The Coming of the Holy Spirit | Acts 2

In this message from Acts 2, we explore one of the most powerful moments in the history of the church—the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came upon the believers and the mission of the church truly began.

Before diving into the passage, we reflect on the incredible grace of God. The gospel reminds us that salvation isn’t earned through moral effort, self-improvement, or religious performance—it is freely given through Jesus Christ. As Robert Farrar Capon once wrote, grace works only for losers, and the good news of the gospel is that Christ welcomes sinners like us through His finished work.

From there we turn to Acts 2, where the disciples are waiting in obedience for the promise of the Father. On the day of Pentecost, the calm is suddenly broken by the sound of a mighty rushing wind and tongues of fire as the Holy Spirit fills the believers.

In this sermon we look at:

  • The waiting and obedience of the early believers

  • The dramatic arrival of the Holy Spirit

  • The personhood and deity of the Holy Spirit

  • How Pentecost marks the birth of the church and the beginning of God’s mission to the nations

The Holy Spirit is not merely a force or influence—He is God Himself, the third person of the Trinity, who guides, convicts, empowers, and intercedes for believers.

Join us as we explore how God moved powerfully at Pentecost and what that means for the church and for believers today.
