From Waiting to Witnessing: The Commission and Promise

From Waiting to Witnessing: The Commission and Promise
📖 Acts 1:6–11
In this message from the Book of Acts, we explore Jesus’ final words before His ascension and the powerful shift from waiting to witnessing. Written around A.D. 61 by Luke, Acts records the first 30 years of church history and the unstoppable spread of the Gospel from Jerusalem to Rome.
The disciples wanted details about the coming Kingdom—but Jesus gave them a mission instead. Rather than revealing timelines, He promised power. In Acts 1:8, Jesus declares that they would receive the Holy Spirit and become His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
This sermon highlights three life-shaping truths:
• Trust the Father’s timing—even when you don’t have the details.
• Walk in the Spirit’s power—your mission is clear.
• Live with expectation—Jesus is coming again.
The ascension was not the end of the story—it was a promise in motion. As believers today, we are called to the same Spirit-empowered mission as first given in Acts and commissioned by Jesus in Matthew 28:19–20.
If you’ve ever wrestled with God’s timing or wondered what your role is in His plan, this message will challenge and encourage you to move from waiting to bold, Spirit-led witnessing.
